Websites made with Google Business Profiles will be turned off on March, 1, 2024.
What are websites made with Google Business Profiles?
Websites made with Google Business Profiles are basic websites that are powered with information from your Business Profile.
If you’ve made a website through the Google Business Profile the URL will appear as: site:*business.site – for example: https://tmglondon.business.site/.
However, from March 1, 2024, websites made with Google Business Profiles will be turned off and customers visiting your website will be redirected to your Google Business Profile instead.
The redirect will work until June 10, 2024.
After this date, visitors will encounter a “page not found” error.
Despite the imminent closure on March, 1, 2024 small business owners will still have access to their main Business Profiles.
What does this mean if I have a website made with Google Business Profile?
From March 1, 2024, you won’t have a website.
To maintain an online presence, affected businesses will need to create a new website.
If you have already created a new website (domain) Google advises redirecting your Google Business Profile website (site:*business.site) to your new domain before June 10, 2024.
Why have Google shut down the Business Profile websites?
Google have said the decision to discontinue websites made with Google Business Profiles is because of the low engagement.
Google said: “Due to low engagement, we are winding down websites made with Business Profiles, which previously created basic, templated websites based on Business Profile information.
“Small business owners will continue to have access to Business Profiles, as well as ads landing pages if they don’t maintain a website, and other resources to connect with potential customers online.”
