EXCLUSIVE: Google AI Mode is coming to the UK on Tuesday 29 July

Google AI mode is going to be roll out to all users in the UK on Tuesday, July, 29, the TRAFCK team has learnt from senior Alphabet executives.

Google has already been testing AI Mode in the US and parts of Asia.

AI Mode was made available in the US on Tuesday, May 20, appearing as an option in Google’s search bar.

What is Google AI Mode?

Google AI Mode is a new and smarter way to search using Google. It’s powered by Google’s most advanced AI, called Gemini.

When you ask a question, it breaks it into smaller parts, searches the web for each part, and then puts everything together into a clear, helpful answer.

It also shows links to websites so you can read more if you want to. You can search using text, voice, or images.

Why should businesses and brands care about Google AI Mode?

Search is changing fast: Google’s AI Mode isn’t just a new look, it completely changes how people search and find information.

Fewer clicks to websites: AI Mode gives users direct answers, so people don’t always click on links anymore, even if your page ranks well. But your brand can still be visible through mentions and citations.

New metrics matter: Traditional metrics like clicks and traffic are less reliable. Focus on brand mentions, assisted conversions, and engagement across platforms.

Adapt or fall behind: Brands that don’t update their content strategy for AI Mode risk becoming invisible. You need clear, trustworthy, structured content to stay relevant.

Trust and expertise matter more: Google shows content in AI answers only if it’s from reliable, expert sources. Prove your brand knows what it’s talking about.

PR is now more important for SEO: Your brand needs to be talked about across the web, in news, blogs, forums, and social media, to show up in AI summaries.

PPC (paid ads) will be disrupted:With AI Mode, fewer ads are shown, and they must be more relevant and high-quality to appear. Your ad strategy needs to evolve, or you’ll get less visibility and lower ROI.

It’s still early, get ahead now: Most brands haven’t optimised for AI search yet. Embracing it now gives you a first-mover advantage.
